Tour Schedule

Morning Pick-Up

09:00 – We’ll meet you wherever you are to pick you up for the tour.

Camel Market

Our fist stop is on the far east end of the city, the famous Nouakchott Camel Market. You’ll find an open-air market where hundreds of camels are bought and sold each day.

City Center

Next we’ll make a trip to the Al Khaima City Center where you can see the central government building. We’ll visit the Mauritania National Museum, then the Capital Market, a busy and bustling open-air market filled with artisan vendors and craftsmen. You can find desert attire worthy of your tour if you want to get some items before your trip into the desert. We recommend a straw hat and a Mauritanian djellaba.

Lunch at Le Sultan

We’ll bring you to our favorite lunch spot, Le Sultan, to the north of the city. Situated on the beach, it’s a fabulous place for a fresh seafood lunch right in front of the waves. Enjoy a dip in the ocean if you’d like, too!

(Lunch price is not included)

Fish Market

In the afternoon, we head to the fish market (around 15:30) to see the fishermen haul in their painted boats full of fresh catch. It’s a short visit, with a very strong smell. Spend an hour or less here.

Tea Ceremony

Our final will be a tall dune outside the city, where we’ll set out a mat and enjoy a Mauritanian tea ceremony of sweet, minty green tea. Watch the sunset from on top of the dune.

We don’t set hard times on this agenda because it requires a lot of inter-city driving which can result in unexpected delays.
