The Grey City
Tichit is one of the 4 ancient cities of Mauritania and an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded in the 12th century, Tichit is also known as the grey city and is famous for its gray brick vernacular architecture (made without professional carpenters or architects). It subsists from date farming and the usual animal husbandry of goats and camels.
