Day 1 Depart for the Desert

Depart Nouakchott for Azoueiga. Many people enjoy climbing the Big Dunes. There will be plenty of water to keep hydrated in any case. Night camping under the stars.

Day 2 Valley, Oasis, Ancient City

Leave Azoueiga towards the White Valley. Stop at the Oasis of Mhairith. Drive to the UNESCO heritage city of Chinguetti.

Day 3 Eye of the Sahara

Leave Chingeutti along the ancient route of caravans to the Eye of Africa (Richat Structure; Gelb Richat). Arrive in UNESCO heritage city of Ouadane and spend the night in a guesthouse.

Day 4 From Atar to Ben Amera

Depart Ouadane for Atar, a city with many markets. Then swing over to Terjit Oasis for lunch and enjoy a soak. After lunch, move outside of Terjit and set up a campsite for the evening. Dinner and camping under the stars.

Day 5 All Aboard

After breakfast, head north west via Choum along the train tracks to reach Ben Amera. Enjoy a picnic lunch at Ben Amera under the granite monolith, then pack up and continue west to a village called T'mimichet where the group boards the iron ore train. Sleep on the train under the stars.

Day 6 Back to Nouakchott

Depart Nouadhibou and drive back to Nouakchott. If there is enough time, visit the fish market at sunset to watch the fishermen haul their painted boats in.

Group tours are fun and comfortable tours made up of individual travelers and small groups. This allows travelers to meet and share stories over the course of tour, while benefiting from the lower pricing that a larger group would have if booked privately.

How Group Tours Work

Group Tours are guaranteed to depart with at least 1 guest (except for tours going into the Tagant region which require 3 guests minimum)
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included for all tours from the time you leave Nouakchott until you return
- Meals on the designated arrival day, and dinner on final day not included (see exclusions)
Transportation, guide, and driver are all included with the list price
No more than 3 guests per vehicle, so all guests have a window seat
All nights in hotels and guest houses are included
We arrange 2 guests per room at hotel and guest house bookings, but guests can receive their own single room for a €160 supplement (this covers all nights of the tour)
Once you've made your booking request, we request a 50% deposit of the trip price to officially confirm your spot--deposits can be via bank transfer to our bank account. Please read our payment and cancellation policies.

What's Included?

Our tours are fully inclusive and contain no hidden costs or surprises! This includes:

Pick up and drop-off to/from NKC Airport
- Conditions: if arriving between 10:00 and 22:00 on the designated arrival day, and departing on the tour end date
Chef-prepared meals each day (breakfast, lunch, dinner) outside of Nouakchott
- Exception: meals in NKC not included, please do not put meals on your hotel bill
Plenty of water per day (~1 bottle every 2 hours)
Hotel and guest house costs (applies only to our bookings, not your own)
Thoroughly maintained and inspected 4x4 truck(s)
Driver, chef, and a guide who speaks your preferred language
All overnight and camping materials
- Exception: personal sleeping bag, please bring one if traveling between Oct and Mar.
All taxes, fees and insurances for police and military checkpoints within the country

The tour price does not include:

Airfare
Visa entry fees
Souvenirs or guest budget for extra snacks or beverages
Any meals in Nouakchott
Hotel night on final day of tour (but we do include day-use of a hotel for guests to shower before departure)
Any airport transportation required outside of our included time—but we offer off-schedule transportation for €30 per instance
