Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Travel to the Old City

Breakfast is taken at the hotel/guest house. Depart early morning for Chinguetti. Lunch will be served along the way. Stop and see the Canyon of Amogjare and prehistoric rock paintings. Arrive in Chinguetti in the evening. Watch the sunset over the city from tall dunes. Dinner and overnight at the guest house.

Day 2 Oasis Bath

Breakfast is served by guest house in Chinguetti. Take a morning tour of the old city, including the ancient library. After the tour, depart Chinguetti for Terjit Oasis. Enjoy lunch there and have a soak. Depart Terjit and set up a campsite outside of the oasis for the night. Dinner and camping under the stars.

Day 3 All Aboard!

After breakfast, head north to Choum. Stop and visit the town, then continue west to Ben Amera. Enjoy picnic lunch in the shadow of the giant granite monolith. After lunch, continue to T'mimichet where guests and their guide board the train in the night. Sleep under the stars on top of the train cars.

Day 4 Return to Nouakchott

After regrouping with the driver, depart Nouadhibou for Nouakchott. Enjoy a picnic lunch in Banc d'Arguin along the way. Arrive back to Nouakchott in the early evening. If there is enough time, visit the fish market at sunset to watch the fishermen haul in their painted boats.

Canyon of Amogjare

The canyon is home to a couple different points of interest, including ancient rock paintings from nomadic tribes of the past, and an cinema relic from the French film “Fort Saganne” created in the 80’s.

Chinguetti

Chinguetti is an ancient medieval trading center just east of Atar, in the heart of the Adrar region. It is one of four ancient Mauritanian cities, and easily accessible.

Terjit Oasis

The Oasis of Terjit was rejuvenated in the 1970’s and serves as a great place for respite from the desert. Fresh mineral water drips from the plateau edges here, and a swimming pool welcomes visitors.
