This tour will combine the most famous attractions in Mauritania, which is rich in culture, beautiful landscapes and history. This is our shortest group tour, and can be easily taken within the scope of a holiday week. Guests will visit 2 of the ancient UNESCO World Heritage Cities during this short tour.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive in Nouakchott
Travel and arrival day. Guests arrive in Mauritania and meet up with our guide(s). All guests have complimentary airport pick-up. If time permits depending on arrival, some attractions can be seen in the capital.
Day 2 Oases and the Old City
Breakfast is taken at the hotel/guest house. Depart early morning for Chinguetti. Lunch will be served at the lush and restful Terjit Oasis along the way. We'll pass through the Oasis of Mhairith. Arrive in Chinguetti in the early evening, tour the ancient library and the old city. Watch the sunset over the city. Dinner is served by the guest house.
Day 3 Monolith and Train
Breakfast is served by guest house in Chinguetti. Finish any activities desired by the group in Chinguetti. Depart for Ben Amera Monolith. Stop at Canyon of Amogjare along the way. Have lunch at the monolith. Backtrack to Choum where guests will await the iron ore train and board in the evening. Ride the train with some light snacks and plenty of water, under clear dark sky country through the night.
Day 4 Coastal City to National Park
Arrive in Nouadhibou in the morning. Breakfast is taken at Cap Blanc, prepared by the team. Depart Nouadhibou for Banc d'Arguin National Park. Lunch is served along the way. Arrive in Cape Tafarit, dinner is prepared and served by us. Stay the evening on the beach in nomadic tents under the stars.
Day 5 Return to Nouakchott
Breakfast is served at Tafarit, prepared by us. Depart for the famous Cape Timrist in the Immragen of Nouamgar. Lunch is served along the way at the bird observatory while watching pink flamingos. Depart for Nouakchott, arrive in early evening. Guests can visit the fish market and watch the fisherman pull in the painted boats. This marks the end of the tour. Day use in the hotel (for showering/changing) and airport transfer is handled by our team. Guests who choose to stay another night will be responsible for their own arrangements, but our team will still be able to assist for airport drop-off when they leave.

The canyon is home to a couple different points of interest, including ancient rock paintings from nomadic tribes of the past, and an cinema relic from the French film “Fort Saganne” created in the 80’s.

Iron Ore Desert Train
The longest train in the world! It carried mostly iron on a daily basis, and travels between Zouérat (where the mine is) to Nouadhibou, our commerce capital.
Marché du Poisson
Visit the colorful fishing boats of Nouakchott’s fish markets, with a bustling atmosphere and the freshest fish from the Atlantic.
