An Iron Lifeline to the Coast

The Mauritania Railway stretches from Zouérat to Nouadhibou, is about 3km long, and carries hundreds of iron ore-filled wagons as well as a few passenger cars. This train connects the people of Zouérat, a mining town on the border of Mauritania and Western Sahara, with the commerce center of Nouadhibou.

The train passes by the Ben Amera monolith along its route, as well as many small villages of Mauritanians living in the desolate Saharan desert.
