Romanesque meets Arabic
Ouadane, one of the four ancient cities (along with Chinguetti, Tichit and Oualata), an UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is one of the easiest of these cities to visit from Nouakchott. Located in the heart of the Adrar region, this city contains a combination of old and “new” development, including lots of Roman and Arabic architectural influences for a very unique atmosphere. Ouadane, along with Oualata, was part of the trans-Saharan trade route. It is one of the closest landmarks to the Richat Structure and can be seen along the way to this geological marvel.
